Girish Luthra

Vice Admiral Girish Luthra is Distinguished Fellow at Observer Research Foundation, Mumbai. He is Former Commander-in-Chief of Western Naval Command, and Southern Naval Command, Indian Navy. A Navigation and Direction specialist, he has commanded frontline warships, including aircraft carrier INS Viraat, and the Western Fleet. He has held key positions heading Policy and Plans, Operations, Foreign Cooperation, Net Assessments, and Disaster Management. An alumnus of Defence Services Staff College, India, and Naval War College, USA, he has been Deputy Naval Adviser at High Commission of India, London. He has steered preparation of key official documents like Indian Maritime Doctrine, Maritime Capability Perspective Plan, and Defence Space Roadmap 2030. He has authored numerous research papers. He is Former Chairman, Maritime History Society, Mumbai, and Trustee Chairman, Sea Cadet Corps, India. Post his superannuation; he has been Managing Director of a Biotech company and Adviser with a leading corporate house. He is a recipient of Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, and Param Vishisht Seva Medal from the President of India.
