Dr. K. S. Uplabdh Gopal is an Associate Fellow with the Health Initiative at the Observer Research Foundation. He writes and researches on how India’s health system can work better in practice, especially in areas where outcomes depend on governance, incentives, and everyday implementation rather than a single clinical intervention.
His work spans universal health coverage, ageing and senior care, emergency response, patient safety and medical device regulation, and digital health and AI. He also writes on the opportunities and risks created by rapid digitisation, including AI in care pathways and insurance decisions, as well as emerging environmental health risks from biomedical plastic waste to newer contaminants. He is also a co-author of "Navigating Public Health Administration in India," an academic textbook that brings administrative practice, health systems design, and on-the-ground governance into a single, accessible guide for public health practitioners.
Before joining ORF in June 2024, he worked in healthcare consulting and advisory roles at PwC India and IQVIA, and trained as a medical doctor. He holds an MBBS from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Wardha, and has published across national platforms and research outlets on topics ranging from inclusive healthcare to infectious disease priorities.
