Mr. Lalit Bhasin, Trustee, Observer Research Foundation, and one of the senior-most lawyers of the Supreme Court, has been bestowed with the National Law Day Award for his "Outstanding Contribution to the Development of the Legal Profession in India and for his deep involvement and engagement in the maintenance of the highest standards at the Bar".
Mr. Lalit Bhasin, Trustee, Observer Research Foundation, and one of the senior-most lawyers of the Supreme Court, has been bestowed with the National Law Day Award for his "Outstanding Contribution to the Development of the Legal Profession in India and for his deep involvement and engagement in the maintenance of the highest standards at the Bar".
Mr. Bhasin, the General Secretary of the Bar Association of India and President of the Society of Indian Law Firms, received the Award from the President of India, Mrs Pratibha Devsingh Patil and the Chief Justice of India, Justice Mr. K.G. Balakrishnan on November 24, 2007. Also present at the ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan were Minister of State for Law and Justice, Mr. K. Venkatapathy, the Chief Justice of England & Wales, Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers and International Bar Associatio President, Mr. Fernando Pombo.
Mr. Bhasin, a legal luminary with more than 45 years of practice and recipient of numerous awards from India and abroad, is the leading spirit behind many legal and social organisations. He is the Regional Secretary of Union Internationale Des Advocats, General Secretary of the Indian Law Foundation and Chairman of the Working Group of Human Rights Institute, International Bar Association, besides holding many other responsibilities.
