Chitra Pattabiraman
Chitra is the Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Infectious Disease Research Foundation a not for profit for carrying out locally relevant infectious disease research in India. She is a virologist/molecular biologist with an interest in viruses-particularly those that are novel emerging and/or cause human disease.Chitra obtained her BSc in Microbiology from Calcutta University an Integrated MSc-PhD in Life Science from the National Centre for Biological Sciences TIFR Bangalore and was awarded a SERB-Royal Society Newton International Fellowship for post doctoral work with the Brain Infections Group at the University of Liverpool. She was also awarded an India Alliance (DBT-Wellcome Trust) Early Career Fellowship at NIMHANS Bangalore to use genomic tools (sequencing) to identify pathogens in brain infections.Chitra is committed to developing a model of scientific citizenship with a prominent role for women and the Global South.
