Dr. Chitra Pattabiraman is a virologist/molecular biologist who uses genomic tools (sequencing) to identify and characterize pathogens. She obtained her Integrated MSc- PhD in Life Sciences from the National Centre for Biological Sciences, TIFR Bengaluru,India. Dr. Pattabiraman has been awarded the SERB-Royal Society Newton International Fellowship and the India Alliance Early Career Fellowship for postdoctoral work on brain infections. Between 2020-2023 she was involved in the genomic tracking of variants of SARS-CoV-2 in India, and developing tools to visualize and analyse this data. She consults with multiple organizations on projects related to infectious disease diagnostics, emerging infections, environmental surveillance, animal health and public health in India.
