Two distinguished faculty members of Observer Research Foundation, Mr. Brajesh Mishra and Mr. Surendra Singh, have been bestowed with Padma awards by the Government on the occasion of the 62nd Republic Day.

Two distinguished faculty members of Observer Research Foundation, Mr. Brajesh Mishra and Mr. Surendra Singh, have been bestowed with Padma awards by the Government on the occasion of the 62nd Republic Day.
Mr. Brajesh Mishra, one of the Trustees of Observer Research Foundation, has been awarded Padma Vibhushan. Mr. Mishra was the country’s first National Security Advisor. He was also a Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister during the NDA regime. He joined the ORF Board of Trustees in March 2007.
A veteran diplomat, Mr. Mishra has been the Ambassador and Permanent Representative in Geneva and was the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia. He was also India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations from June 1979 to April 1981. He continued with the United Nations on deputation till June 1987.
Padma Vibhushan is the second highest civilian honour in the country.
Mr. Surendra Singh, a former Union Cabinet Secretary and now Honorary Advisor to ORF, has also been awarded the Padma Bhushan. Joining IAS in 1959, he served the UP Government and the Union Government in various capacities. After retirement, Mr. Singh served as Executive Director on the Board of the World Bank, representing India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. He chaired the important World Bank Committee on Development Effectiveness. He was also a director on the Boards of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
Mr. Surendra Singh continues to advise Government of India in the capacity of a Member of Government of India Consultative Committees on Industry, International Economic Relations, Energy, Transport and Tourism.
