To understand the different perspectives of the UK and India on the evolving situation in Afghanistan and the implications of the Arab Spring, Observer Research Foundation organised an interaction with experts from the Foreign Commonwealth Office on March 21, 2013.

The session on Afghanistan focused on the viability, progress and status of the reconciliation process, the nature of the political settlement, strength of the Taliban and the existing factionalism therein and the role of Pakistan in the process. The implications of India’s exclusion from the entire process were also discussed.

The second session was on ’The Arab Spring in Retrospect’. The main issues discussed during this session included the impact of the Arab Spring on the stability of the region, the internal problems within the regional countries, the geopolitical, ideological and sectarian dimensions of the rivalries and existing tensions in the region and India’s approach to the region and the Arab Spring.
