ORF Senior Fellow Dr. R. Swaminathan will work on mobile banking solutions for financial inclusion and prepare a policy document for the government.
Observer Research Foundation Senior Fellow Dr. R. Swaminathan has been selected for the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) Fellowship. NIXI is a Department of Information Technology (DIT) institution and peers Internet Service Providers (ISPs) among themselves for the purpose of routing the domestic traffic within the country. NIXI also manages the .IN Registry.
A total of 34 Indians have been selected for the one year fellowships. The selection was done by a five-member committee. Dr. Swaminathan’s proposal was on mobile banking solutions for financial inclusion. The fellowship holders will have to submit a policy paper within one year and will work with a mentor. Apart from writing the policy paper, the fellowship holders will have to travel for two domestic and two international digital conferences.
Dr. Swaminathan is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and a post graduate from Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Delhi. He is a recipient of University Grants Commission (UGC) Research Fellowship and a winner of the South Asian Journalists Association (SAJA) award. He is the author and editor of five books and is a regular contributor to several magazines and newspapers.
