Safer Food, Better Health: Coping with Food-borne Risks to Human Health

Since the inception of the United Nation Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in 1945, thinking about the future of our food systems has become even more critical than before. Impacts of climate change - shifts in soil quality, precipitation, pest regimes, seasonal growth patterns, land degradation, and reduction in biodiversity have significantly impacted agricultural and aquatic food production systems worldwide. However, the causal links between climate change and food security are manifesting more clearly, particularly in the developing countries, considering their shared contexts of nutrition deficiency and rainfed and farm-centered agricultural systems.

The COVID-19 pandemic has pointed towards the fragility of interconnected and globalized food supply chains with loss of market access, supply chain disruption, and fall in prices due to the lack of consumer demand, thus further exacerbating chronic food insecurity. The convening will aim to radically reimagine the future of food and resilient food systems and how the countries of Global South and India can create an enhanced multi-sectoral, multi-stakeholder partnership for food security in a post-pandemic world.
