Quantum science and technologies will have a dramatic impact on the way we communicate and exchange information. Quantum computers will have the potential to disrupt modern methods of encryption, including the most-secure RSA-2048, and can leave confidential and sensitive information vulnerable. With China, US, UK, and India investing billions of dollars into the development of Quantum computing, it is critical for us to assess the implications of this emerging technology on national security. Nation states do not need to wait for quantum supremacy and sophisticated quantum computing capabilities to secure the confidential national information and the data of their citizens. Strategies and policies to secure data must be deliberated now.
