The Chinese economy, through which the Communist Party draws its legitimacy to rule the nation, is under significant strain. Last year, Covid-19 forced stringent lockdowns in China’s cities, denting the country’s growth story. China is also facing a looming demographic crisis after its population declined for the first time in 60 years in 2022. Youth unemployment is at an all-time high presenting serious worries for the regime, while the United States and its partners are working to deny technology critical to China’s development. This event will feature perspectives from experts on the trajectory of the world’s second-largest economy.
