Seven years of civil war in Syria

The Syrian civil war has raged on for seven long years, as only the Iran-Iraq war marked the concluding decades of the previous century in the neighbourhood. The war has drawn international players for diplomatic, political and military purposes. Scholars have pointed out that it seems back to the days of the forgotten Cold War.
