When all hell breaks loose: Understanding the Sri Lankan Crisis and its implications This discussion will start at 6:00 p.m. IST.

Sri Lanka is currently facing a multi-faceted crisis. Years of economic mismanagement, consistent borrowing of unsustainable loans, and policy failures have now contributed to a full scale political and economic crisis. Protests against the president continue to take the precedent, despite Ranil Wickremesinghe taking oath as the new Prime Minister. As negotiations with the IMF continue, it is also feared that the island state might face a severe hunger challenge.

The panel will discuss the following questions:

  1. How did Sri Lanka get here?
  2. What are the political and economic implications of this crisis?
  3. What does the crisis mean for India?
  4. How can Sri Lanka recover from this crisis?
