Intelligence Gathering in the Intelligent Age: Challenges of Technological Innovations

Intelligence gathering and analysis have always been fraught with constraints. Today, advances in technology, such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, massive data generation, and cyber and influence operations in an increasingly interconnected world, demand rapid adaptation to maintain a competitive edge. Key issues now include safety, privacy, algorithmic bias, improved data management, advanced analytic tools, and effective exploitation of open-source information, all of which are critical to modern intelligence work. This National Security Dialogue will therefore address these concerns, seeking answers to the following questions:

  1. How can intelligence agencies rapidly adapt to emerging technologies to maintain a strategic advantage?
  2. What measures are essential to address safety, privacy, credibility and algorithmic bias within intelligence collection and analysis?
  3. How can the intelligence gathering process be optimised to better exploit open-source information?
