After 14 years of Conservative rule, Britain now has a Labour government that won a landslide victory in the country’s general election on July 4.
Over the years, the Labour Party has revamped itself, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer has vowed to strengthen India-UK ties that have remained underwhelming and troubled by legacy irritants. Just two weeks into his tenure, Foreign Secretary David Lammy visited India and launched a UK-India Technology Security Initiative.
With Brexit finally out of the way, how does the change of guard in Britain bode for the country’s foreign policy and more specifically, ties with India? What are the implications for the defence and tech pillars of the partnership? Will the India-UK FTA see the light of day? Is the UK’s Indo-Pacific tilt here to stay?
As both India and the UK strive to carve roles for themselves in a volatile emerging order, join us as we unpack the prospects for India-UK relations under the new Labour government.
This is an in-person public event.
