Maldives — threats to free speech and press freedom

A growing Islamic radicalisation is narrowing the space for liberal views in the Maldives. The murder of a prominent political blogger and democratic rights activist, Yameen Rasheed for his criticism of radicalisation is a reflection on the state of free speech in the country.

A delegation led by Yameen Rasheed’s father Hussain Rasheed will be at ORF to speak about the current situation in the Maldives and the events leading up to his son’s murder.
