The city of Madras was found in 1639. Madras will celebrate its foundation day on August 22, since the last 350th anniversary celebration in 1989. This event has expanded with greater institutional involvement.

ORF Chennai has been holding thematic interactions through all Saturdays in August every year. This year, the theme will revolve around the inherent inadequacies of Madras, as the city grows from a metropolis to megapolis. This discussion will deliberate upon policy issues of infrastructure, demography, migration, policing that concern the present and the future of the city.
