Date: Sep 12, 2016
This event will focus on India’s expectations from COP 22, and the questions around implementation of the Paris Agreement and COP Decision text.

The Paris Agreement (PA) represents a shift in the global architecture for climate governance: it is ‘built-up’ from Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) submitted by the Parties to the UNFCCC. The bottom-up design of the Paris Agreement has raised new questions about monitoring, review and transparency of action and reframed old debates on technology transfer and climate finance. Progress on ratification and entry into force of the Agreement also remains unclear. The Agreement will only replace the second period of the Kyoto Protocol in 2020, pre 2020 actions therefore remain critical.

This roundtable discussion will focus on India’s expectations from COP 22, which will be held in Marrakesh, Morocco in November 2016, as well as questions around the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the COP Decision text.
