Diversifying the Quad: Opportunities in Geoeconomics, Technology, Climate Change and Health
In the previous Quad summit, held in March 2021, participating nations chose to expand the Quad’s purpose and activities beyond the narrow lens of military operations and security. In response to a number of pressing global challenges, the grouping established the Quad Vaccine Partnership as well as working groups focused on climate change and critical technologies. As the Quad looks to expand its influence beyond security matters, this session hopes to answer some key questions: What are the challenges and opportunities Quad nations are likely to face as it seeks to rebrand itself and bring meaningful change on these fronts through joint policies? How will Quad nations navigate existent internal disagreements over key technology policy issues like data flows? Further, efforts will be made to unpack how partner nations can boost outreach to key third party nations and counter the rising influence of the Quad’s strategic competitors in these domains.
