Poornima Vengaprath Bhattathiri

Dr Poornima V B is a Research Assistant at ORF. Her work focuses on blue economy, marine circularity, and sustainable resource policy. She has contributed to research on integrating circular economy strategies into its marine and coastal frameworks, emphasising waste valorisation, biorefineries, and sustainable coastal livelihoods.

She holds a joint PhD in Chemistry and Bioprocessing from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and Monash University, Australia. Her doctoral research focused on creating a chemical-free, biorefinery process for converting agricultural residues into high-value biomaterials and natural products. Demonstrating both techno-economic feasibility and scalability, her research contributes to the broader vision of circular bioeconomy and resource-efficient innovation.

She has published in peer-reviewed journals and received multiple awards, including the Vice-Chancellor’s Global Mobility Grant from Monash University. Her research interests span sustainability transitions, bioresource valorisation, and circular economy strategies.
