Date: Jun 13, 2019

Several significant developments have taken place in the Northeast Asian region — starting from reconciliatory trends between North and South Koreas. This followed the Kim-Trump summit in 2018. The summit itself raised several expectations that North Korea would be inclined to commit itself to the ‘denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.’ However, the Hanoi Summit in February 2019 belied all these expectations. Furthermore, it is reported that North Korea has resumed its medium-range nuclear missile programme.
