India and Japan, both sharing long-term political, economic, and strategic goals, have been collaborating to enhance their economic resilience through the development of robust supply chains and critical infrastructure. The inaugural India-Japan Dialogue on Economic Security was held in Tokyo on November 27th, 2024, with Indian Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri and Japanese Vice Minister Mr Masataka Okano of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs leading the discussions.
In the Japan-India leaders’ meeting in August 2025, the two countries issued a FACT SHEET on Japan-India Economic Security Cooperation that contains a lot of concrete efforts to enhance the two countries' economic security with 6 focus sectors: Semiconductors, Critical Minerals, Information and Communication Technology, Clean Energy, Scientific Cooperation, and Pharmaceuticals.
The India-Japan Economic Security Conference will build on these discussions. It will be an invitation-only, day-long roundtable conference that aims to bring together select experts from government, think tanks, academia, and industry to have dedicated conversations on issues of economic and supply chain resilience and promoting India-Japan cooperation in emerging sectors of the economy. Collaboration in the private sector, particularly in critical areas such as semiconductors, clean energy, telecommunications, infrastructure, and science and technology, will also be discussed as a crucial contributor to economic security.
