On the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit, the Observer Research Foundation is hosting a three-day series of discussions on the future of AI: how it’s governed, how countries cooperate, and how its benefits can reach everyone. Policymakers, technologists, industry leaders, and development experts will come together to tackle the real-world challenges facing the Global South.
The conversations will cover critical topics such as using AI responsibly in education, integrating AI into large-scale digital public services, and creating decentralised data marketplaces. There will be a special focus on South-South cooperation, exploring concrete AI applications in agriculture, healthcare, and education, as well as identifying partnerships that can help overcome systemic barriers.
The discussions will also look at how middle-power countries can navigate the economic and geopolitical shifts AI brings, how to scale AI safely and sustainably, and what governance and infrastructure are needed to support these ambitions.
Ultimately, the aim is to build bridges between the Global South and North through collaborative research and innovation networks. The convenings also seek to foster new alliances for AI-for-Good initiatives and reimagine global cooperation frameworks.
These efforts are designed to ensure equitable access to AI while tackling challenges in safety, capacity-building, and governance — so that AI can deliver meaningful benefits for everyone, everywhere.
