India’s BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment) policy lays out an ambitious vision to make biotechnology a key driver of economic growth, healthcare innovation, sustainable agriculture, and industrial development. The policy aims to create a thriving bioeconomy by transforming research into real-world solutions, supporting innovation in biomanufacturing, and leveraging advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), to better understand and interact with living systems.
Coordinated efforts are needed across sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, environment, and space technology. Building strong infrastructure for research, manufacturing, and data sharing, while ensuring inclusive opportunities, are critical for creating a resilient and inclusive biotech ecosystem. Equally important is nurturing a workforce with the skills to navigate the intersections of biology, computation, and engineering enabling them to bring ideas from the lab to the market.
This roundtable aims to bring together experts from industry, academia, and government to deliberate on strategies for advancing India’s bioeconomy under the BioE3 policy. Against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving biotechnology landscape, the discussion will focus on key thematic areas: biomanufacturing, Bio-AI integration, regulation, and collaboration—both domestic and international.
