This session will examine current developments and trends in China’s accelerating efforts to transform its science and technology innovation system and capabilities and attendant industrialization initiatives. Issues that will be covered include the introduction of a national strategic integration framework that incorporates but supersedes military-civil fusion, enhanced efforts to promote high-end original innovation, especially in emerging domains, the modernization of the defense industrial base, and the possible re-emergence of a militarized Chinese political economy.
