Matekenya holds a PhD in the Department of Economics from Nelson Mandela University (NMU). Her research interests include Maritime Economics, Development Economics, Environmental Economics, Public Sector, and Macroeconomics. Dr Matekenya’s contributions to the academic sphere have not gone unnoticed. In 2022, she was honoured with the Emerging Researcher of the Year. Furthermore, she has been awarded two research grants from the National Research Foundation (NRF), further solidifying her standing as a distinguished researcher.
