Mr. Chakravorty has a professional career spanning more than three decades. In his diplomatic journey he has been India’s Ambassador to Peru and Bolivia; Consul General in New York; and Deputy High Commissioner in Bangladesh. He has also served in India’s missions in Spain and Colombia.
Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to Jakarta in August 2023, he was for three years, Joint Secretary in India’s Ministry of External Affairs responsible for India’s relations with Europe West and the EU.
Before joining India's diplomatic service in 1996, he worked, for more than five years, on environmental and sustainability projects with non-profit organisations in India. He has an abiding interest in conservation and sustainability issues involving forests, mangroves and wildlife.
