
Rakhee Bhattacharjee is Professor at the Special Centre for the Study of North East India, Jawaharlal Nehru University. She holds a PhD in Economics and works at the intersection of development economics, regional and trans-regional economies, geo-economics, geopolitics, conflict and security studies, economy-ecology linkages, and the political economy of India’s Northeast and its neighbouring countries. Before joining JNU, she worked for 12 years at national and government research institutes in roles that included Fellow, Consultant, Coordinator, and Associate Director. She also taught for 14 years as a Visiting Faculty at the University of Calcutta and as a Senior Lecturer at Shillong College. Her scholarship has made significant contributions to the study of Northeast India, development, and security, reflected in major books such as Developmentalism as Strategy and Northeastern India and its Neighbours. She was awarded the Endeavour Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of South Australia in 2008.
