Dr. José Joel Peña Llanes is a full-time professor at the Faculty of Higher Studies (FES) Acatlán of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He holds a PhD in Public Administration from the National Institute of Public Administration (INAP) and a PhD in Law with a specialisation in Public International Law from UNAM’s Institute of Legal Research (IIJ-UNAM). He also holds a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at UNAM (FCPyS-UNAM). His research focuses on European integration, Latin American regionalism, Mexico’s foreign policy, public administration, public international law, and human rights. He is a candidate member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers and an associate member of various national and international organisations and think tanks in the fields of international law and international relations. He has presented papers at national and international academic forums and has collaborated with different media outlets as a commentator. His most recent publication is the book El interregionalismo: nueva estrategia de política exterior para México, and he co-edited the volume Evolución de la justicia global y el derecho internacional: una revisión desde los medios jurídicos de solución de diferencias. In addition, he has authored several book chapters and journal articles with academic publishers and serves as a peer reviewer for books and academic journals.
