Anamika Barua is a Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), India, and a Visiting Faculty Member at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, and the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NIE-NTU), Singapore.

With a background in Ecological Economics, her research examines how political, social, and economic forces shape environmental decision-making, particularly in the context of water resources. Her work spans climate change and water security, the economics of water, ecological footprints, virtual water trade, and water governance, including transboundary water cooperation.

Prof. Barua has published widely in leading peer-reviewed journals and serves on several high-level government committees on climate change and water policy. In 2020, she was a member of the drafting committee for India’s National Water Policy, constituted by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. She also led the Brahmaputra Dialogue (2015–2019) — a pioneering initiative that created a platform for cooperation among Brahmaputra riparian countries on the co-management of shared river resources.
