Dr. Amrita Sen is an Assistant Professor of Sociology with the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Trained as an environmental sociologist, her research explores the political ecology of forest conservation, environmental politics, natural resource-based livelihoods and urban environmentalism. Her expertise is in qualitative research methods and her past and current research largely employs ethnography as a method and practice. Her field areas are primarily in West Bengal, Maharashtra and Karnataka, where she worked on environmental conflicts at different scales. She is the author of ‘A Political Ecology of Forest Conservation in Indian Communities, Wildlife and the State’.
