The city of Chennai, the state capital of southern Tamil Nadu, earlier known as Madras, was founded on 22 August 1639. Across Chennai, the city has been celebrating 'Madras Day' every year. ORF Chennai has been organising a series of lectures, focusing mainly on policy issues of importance to the evolving metropolis.

This year's Madras Day lectures will trace how the city has evolved in terms of its population, demography and electoral constituencies.
