This talk will explore why gas, coal, and nuclear will remain the principle fuels used by India’s electricity sector.

India needs about a million megawatts of new generation capacity to bring its per-capita electricity consumption up to the global average of about 3,100 kilowatt-hours every year.

This talk will explore how US shale gas production has lowered India’s price for imported LNG; why gas, coal, and nuclear will remain the principle fuels used by India’s electricity sector; and how American climate activists prevented the financing of coal-fired power plants in Asia.

Speaker
