India-Mauritius relations have been a low-profile, high-purpose equation, highlighted from time to time by high-level visits from either side. Prime Minister Narendra Modi added an additional dimension by inviting Mauritius counterpart for his inauguration in May 2014 along with SAARC heads of states. He also followed this up with a three-nation, southern Indian Ocean visit which included Mauritius — given the people, trade and strategic equations involved.
This interaction will explore the existing treaty on double taxation avoidance, which was improved upon by the two governments, to fix loopholes that were being exposed and exploited for illegal and unlawful purposes.
Ambassador M. Ganapathi (Indian Foreign Service) has served in many overseas stations during his three and half decades plus of diplomatic career. He was the Indian High Commissioner for Mauritius, and later retired as Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
