Emerging dynamic in Nepal: Society and politics

Talk by Sunil Babu Pant

Sunil Babu Pant  is the first openly gay politician (Member of Parliament and Constituent assembly from 2008 to 2012) in Nepal, and the founder of the Blue Diamond Society (BDS) — a  sexual and gender minority rights group in Nepal. Sunil has conducted a study on the reasons, extent and impact of social exclusion of sexual minorities in Nepal, which resulted in a report in 2005. He has also trained Nepalese media on LGBTI issues over the past eight years, as well as conducted sensitisation training for police and security forces.

The opening and closing remarks of the discussion will be delivered by Sushant Sareen, Senior Fellow, ORF.
