This panel discussion will explore the impact of digital technologies on interactions within democratic societies. It will examine how digital developments have impacted societies in the short term and the long term, and how the impact has differed for various social groups, for instance, the effect on gender relations. The discussion will also examine different effects of digital transformations in developing and developed countries, particularly as different and vibrant forms of democracy takes root around the world.

Topics under the discussion will include: impact of social media on democratic deliberation; long term structural impact of digital transformation; gender perspective and implications for gender justice; and the Indian perspective.

Dr. Alexander Görlach, founder and publisher of The European, will lead the discussion.

Dr. Görlach is a syndicated columnist, book author, television and radio commentator. He has written for several German media outlets, including ZDF, heute, heute–journal, Hessischer Rundfunk, Südwestrundfunk. Dr. Görlach worked as a correspondent for DIE WELT and was the deputy speaker of the CDU/CSU party in the German Parliament.
