While the European Union has gone through a number of crises in the past few years, Germany looks like an anchor of stability in a quickly changing world. In Germany as well as in the rest of the EU, the right-wing challenge the status quo and push for a Europe that is less liberal and open, than it used to be, with regards to trade, immigration and minority rights.
Key questions that will be discussed: Are Merkel and her contender, the social democrat Martin Schulz up to the challenges of changing demographics, an eroding industrial basis, new security challenges and more responsibilities for Germany in Europe and the world?
