The Ugandan government will develop the 600MW Karuma Hydro power project as a public project, as it seeks to boost electricity generation capacity amid rising local and regional power demand. The government would raise funds for the project from its internally generated savings, grants and loans. The project is expected to cost at least $2 billion.
