Taliban and PML’s motives are the same: Shahbaz Sharif

Lahore: Daily Jasarat, March 15, 2010. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif declared that his government was not going to please America any more, stressing that Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) had declined to take dictation from non-Muslims. He was addressing the Mufti Mohammad Hassan Seminar held in Naemia University. Later in a meeting with Army Chief General Ashfaq Kiyani at the Army House, Sharif defended his stance, arguing that his party was using political means to preserve the Shariah and Qur’an, and pledged to build public support for the army. The army, in the meanwhile, remains vigilant against possible efforts by the Taliban to lobby for peace deals in the face of strong military action and public pressure.

Hizb-i-Islami and Taliban join hands against NATO

Islamabad: Daily Ausaf, March 18, 2010. Afghan political party, Hizb-i-Islami and Taliban have come together to start a peace process to force NATO to leave Afghanistan at the earliest. Both groups issued a joint statement comprising ten resolutions. Hizb-i-Islami and Taliban peace talks and NATO’s exit is the first clause. Hizb also demanded that both the groups be removed from the government’s list of banned organizations. Further, all political and war prisoners should be unconditionally released, and both groups should be free to reopen their offices.

Taliban claims attack on police investigation agency

Lahore: Daily Ausaf, March 09, 2010. A safe house of the police’s Special Investigation Agency was destroyed in a suicide blast at Model Town, killing 15 officials and three women and injuring six others. Tahreek-i-Taliban Pakistan immediately claimed responsibility, and vowed to continue attacks to take revenge against drone strikes.

Trained suicide bombers to be sent back to school

Peshawar: Daily Ausaf, March 18, 2010. During Operation Rah-e-Rast in Swat Valley last year, the army arrested more than 250 teenagers indoctrinated to become suicide bombers. After undergoing rehabilitation, most of the children are being sent back to their parents and have begun joining schools.

Arrested US citizens charge-sheeted

Sargodha: Daily Ausaf, March 17, 2010. A special court in the city of Sargodha has charge sheeted five US citizens arrested in allegation of terrorist activities in Pakistan. US deputy councilor Andria and attorney Khalid Khwaja, the defense lawyer, were also present. American citizens Rami Zumzum, Ahmad Abdullah Money, Omar Farooque, and Waqar Hassan Khan were arrested in December last year from Sargodha city market on terror charges.

US ascent has ended: JI

Jacobabad: Daily Khabrain, March 15, 2010. Jamaat-i-Islami chief Munawar Hasan criticized President Asif Ali Zardari and PML (N) leader Nawaz Sharif for plundering Pakistan’s economy and becoming subservient to the ?US agenda’. He was addressing a huge gathering in Jacobabad. He declared his support for ?jihadis’ fighting US troops in Afghanistan. He predicted victory for Islamists against US forces and demanded foreign troops to leave Afghanistan in order to bring peace to the region.

Zardari welcomes Ahmadinejad’s stance against NATO

Islamabad: Daily Jasarat, March 15, 2010. Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed his counterpart Mahmood Ahmadinejad’s statements regarding NATO and Afghanistan, delivered in Tehran last evening. Ahmadinejad challenged NATO, saying that the alliance would not be able to make a safe exit from Afghanistan without Iran’s cooperation.
