Background
Maulik Mavani is a B.E. Mechanical (Mumbai University, 2006-07) from Sardar Patel College of Engineering, Mumbai, where he has also served as a lecturer of Industrial Finance to final-year mechanical engineering batch of 2007-08.
Maulik started his journey in the public health sector as part of his preparations to the UPSC Civil Services examination. Immediately after taking his mains exam in November 2009, Maulik joined the Centre for Studies in Ethics and Rights (CSER) as an intern and undertook field-work in a suburban slum of Mumbai apart from studying about ethics issues in "clinical trials" and the issue of informed consent in institutional medical treatment.
Along with the formal responsibility of getting differently abled children certified for disability, Maulik dealt with several issues such as basic hygiene, maternal health, family welfare contraception (social promotion), accident-related disabilities and was engaged in extensive informal counselling. It’s from these experiences that he developed a keen interest in preventive healthcare with maternal wellbeing as the pivotal concern. Maulik’s inspiration to give more to women’s health also comes from his mother, Dr. Mrs. Padmaja Mavani, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at K.E.M. Hospital and G.S. Medical College, Mumbai.
Maulik is a DAN 1 black-belt Karate-ka from the Academy of Shotokan Karate - Mumbai, and is also working towards promoting martial arts for a healthy India.
